Temporary or permanent?

Everyone starts with temporary residency.

Under Paraguay’s migration law (Ley 6984/2022) there is no direct route to permanent residency. You first receive temporary residency for two years. Permanent residency is a separate, second application. Make sure any provider describes it that way.

Who it’s for

Who Paraguay residency is a good fit for.

Freelancers & remote workers

You earn your income online or abroad. For permanent residency later there is a dedicated category for foreign income, with apostilled contracts and proof of payment.

Retirees

With an apostilled pension statement, the evidence for permanent residency is comparatively simple. We personally accompany you to every appointment.

Families

Every person needs their own application, children also need apostilled birth certificates. We coordinate it all together, and every additional person gets 15 % off.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Paraguay residency

How long does it take to get residency?

You usually spend about five working days in Asunción to file the application. The migration authority then typically takes about six months, or 90 days at the earliest with fast-track processing (€350), after which the Cédula is issued. The exact times are set by the authority; we tell you the current status in your consultation.

Do I get permanent residency right away?

No. Under migration law Ley 6984/2022, everyone starts with temporary residency for two years. Permanent residency is a separate application that you file towards the end of those two years, usually from month 21.

What changed in July 2026?

Resolution DNM 407/2026 applies since 6 July 2026. Anyone applying for permanent residency must prove that they actually earn income in one of twelve categories, such as a pension, foreign income or self-employment with a RUC. All about Resolution 407

Do I need to live in Paraguay permanently?

Temporary residency does not require you to live in Paraguay full-time. For permanent residency later, however, the authority reviews your situation, and long absences can become a problem. We plan with you how often you should be on site.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No. We accompany you to every appointment and translate. Spanish helps a lot in daily life. Guaraní is also an official language and is often mixed with Spanish (Jopará).

Can my family come too?

Yes. Every person files their own application with their own documents; for children, an apostilled birth certificate is added. Every additional person gets 15 % off the package.

Which documents do I need?

Mainly your passport, birth certificate and police record, the two certificates with an apostille. The details depend on your country. See the checklist

Does residency make me a tax resident?

Residency alone does not settle any tax questions. Whether and where you are taxed depends on many factors. We do not provide tax or legal advice; please consult a tax adviser.
